Assessment Structure
Pure Mathematics 1 (P1): Unit P1 is an AS Mathematics unit that introduces students to core pure mathematics skills, including algebra, functions, coordinate geometry, sequences, trigonometry, differentiation and integration.
Pure Mathematics 2 (P2): Unit P2 is an AS Mathematics unit that builds on P1 and develops students' understanding of proof, algebra, coordinate geometry, sequences, logarithms, trigonometry, differentiation and integration.
Pure Mathematics 3 (P3): Unit P3 is an A2 Mathematics unit that extends students' pure mathematics knowledge through more advanced algebra, functions, trigonometry, calculus and mathematical reasoning.
Pure Mathematics 4 (P4): Unit P4 is an A2 Mathematics unit that develops higher-level pure mathematics skills, including advanced calculus, vectors, differential equations and further algebraic methods.
Mechanics 1 (M1): Unit M1 is an applied mathematics unit that focuses on mathematical models in mechanics, kinematics, dynamics, statics and moments.
Statistics 1 (S1): Unit S1 is an applied Mathematics unit that introduces students to statistical methods, probability, data representation, correlation, regression and discrete distributions.
For Edexcel IAL Mathematics, AS Mathematics normally includes P1, P2 and one applied unit, while the full A Level includes P1, P2, P3, P4 and two applied units.
